Hurricane Dean…get’s up a head of steam

Having complained that I’d seen very little tropical depression activity this year less than a week ago, now we get our first real Hurricane of this season. And, it looks like a powerful storm.

Here are the hot numbers:

It’s expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours, which would could make this a Category 2 or 3 Hurricane.
The current track takes it entirely over water until it hits the Yucatan of Mexico in four days time, it’s currently just crossed the line of Caribbean islands to the west of Barbados. The danger with Dean is that it will get into the Gulf without much loss of power, and then turn North or rotate back east. That could mean that any location from the Panhandle of Texas to the Florida Keys could be in the firing line, which is a huge area.

Update: I’ve added advisory 17 and 18, the pressure is dropping and this could become a monster!
